Modern Love walks on by | AU

Clarke had a pretty diverse set of friends in high school; she was a natural leader, but not one of the popular girls. When Octavia had arrived at the beginning of the senior year, she was the shiny new thing and when Echo had gotten a look at her older brother, she'd immediately set her sights on making Octavia her friend. Thank God Octavia was smarter than that, seeing straight through Echo. She'd fallen in with Clarke's group of friends one day when she was looking for a reprieve from Echo. She'd sat down at Clarke's lunch table and the group had taken her in.

Over the past few weeks, Clarke and Octavia had become good friends. She'd been over to Clarke's house a couple of times and had decided it was time for Clarke to come over to her house, which is how the idea of a slumber party had come up. Echo had tried to invite herself after hearing Octavia and Clarke talk about it, but Octavia had smiled and said she was only allowed to have one person over at a time over. That one person, this Friday was Clarke.

Clarke had followed Bellamy's car to the house, parking her own on the street and grabbing her overnight bag, a plain dark backpack, out of the passenger seat. Once inside, Octavia had given Clarke the tour. Bellamy had made spaghetti for the girls and they'd settled into the living room to watch scary movies. At some point, Octavia had fallen asleep, unphased by the horror movies. Clarke, however, couldn't sleep.

After a little bit of fidgeting from her sleeping bag on the floor, she'd slipped out of her sleeping bag and padded into the kitchen wearing a pair of boxer shorts and a tank top. She's bent over looking in the fridge when Bellamy pads into the kitchen as well. She straightens up, flushing and giving Bellamy a sheepish look.

"Hey," she says, unable to keep the smile off her lips.

If Bellamy had known the result of sending O to school would be friends like Clarke, he would have let go sooner. Clarke seems to have a good head on her shoulders, after all. Maybe, or so he hopes, O will learn from that. There is a smile waiting to just see the day. However, if his sister wants to be a kid for a little while longer that was cool with him too.

Bellamy and Octavia both heard about that two years back. Even now it's a well known fact that is whispered around town that Clarke was Lexa's girlfriend. Bellamy sees it as none of his business though, especially after his own families tragedy. It does occur to him, however, that Clarke never moved on. She's a good friend to Octavia and probably a lot of other schoolmates, but nothing else. He can't say he isn't a little curious why, but he can also respect that.

Bellamy notices how she startles and motions calmly to have her feel she can relax around him. "Grab whatever you need. The milk is on the side of the fridge. Cups in the second cupboard over." He did miss dinner, unfortunately, however now's not just her chance to get to know him, it's also his to get to know her. He'll wait until she sits before he picks back up, "So, how did O do for her first time hosting?" He glances over his shoulder to his sister's sleeping form, then turns Clarke. "Watch any of the good ones?"
